YouTube Turns Up the Heat: ‘Hype’ Feature Goes Global With Fresh Creator Tools

YouTube has announced several new updates aimed at boosting creator visibility and simplifying content production, including an expansion of its Hype program, wider access to its AI-generated video summaries, and fresh templates for its YouTube Create app.
All three moves point toward YouTube’s broader strategy of supporting emerging creators while streamlining the path to video publishing.

First, the company is expanding its Hype program into more regions, giving audiences additional ways to spotlight up-and-coming channels. The program allows viewers to allocate “Hype points” to videos that are less than a week old and come from creators with fewer than 500,000 subscribers.
As shown in the example, users receive a set number of Hype points each week (with the option to purchase more) and can assign them to three videos per week. Each creator’s Hype points then accumulate on a leaderboard, surfacing rising talent to new audiences.

YouTube explains:
“Last year, we introduced Hype as a way for fans to help their favorite emerging creators break through, because we know how tough it can be for smaller channels to get noticed. Today, we’re excited to share that Hype is now available in 39 countries — including the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and India — giving fans across the globe the opportunity to help creators grow.”
The program, which first launched in November last year, has gradually expanded over the past several months. With today’s addition of 17 new markets, YouTube has made its most significant leap yet, bringing the total to 39 supported regions.
Hype will automatically activate for eligible channels, and YouTube says it plans to introduce additional features later this year, such as category-specific leaderboards and user posts designed to highlight Hyped videos even further.
Alongside Hype, YouTube is also extending its AI-generated video summaries to a broader audience. These short descriptions, currently available on select English-language videos, are designed to improve video discovery and engagement by giving viewers a quick snapshot of the content.
The feature, tested since 2023, will not replace creator-written descriptions but will provide YouTube with added context to better categorize and recommend content. Importantly, creators will have the ability to flag inaccuracies, which YouTube says will be crucial in refining its machine-learning models.
As the company explains:
“Feedback from both users and creators is essential. If you see an AI-generated summary on your videos or anywhere else on YouTube, try it out and share your thoughts.”
By collecting input on accuracy, YouTube aims to strengthen its content recognition systems and expand its knowledge base to power future AI tools.

Finally, the platform is rolling out new video templates within its YouTube Create app. These templates, designed for simplicity and flexibility, include step-by-step guides and access to royalty-free music, helping creators build polished videos more quickly.
According to YouTube:
“Templates provide creators with full customization within the YouTube Create app, so they can put their own spin on projects. On Android devices, templates can be found on the homepage or in the dedicated templates tab in the bottom menu.”
Currently available only on Android in select regions, the templates will gradually become accessible to all YouTube Create users.
Altogether, these updates highlight YouTube’s twin focus: giving emerging creators more opportunities to be discovered, while lowering the barriers to video production. For creators, both seasoned and new, the changes could provide meaningful tools to grow visibility and improve workflow.
