Meta Launches AI Audio Translation for Global Reach

Meta is taking another step toward breaking down language barriers on its platforms, rolling out new AI-powered audio translation tools that can even synchronize lip movements with translated speech.

With this update, Facebook users will be able to view select videos in a different spoken language, using Meta’s advanced AI to recreate the audio in real time.
As Meta explains:
“Meta AI Translations uses the sound and tone of your own voice so it feels authentically you. And the lip syncing feature matches your mouth’s movements to the translated audio, so it looks like you’re really speaking the language in the reel.”
The company has been experimenting with this technology for some time, and its latest AI recreation capabilities now make it possible to launch more broadly. The initial rollout will cover automatic translations between English and Spanish, with more languages set to follow soon.
Creators will see a new toggle in the Reels composer labeled “Translate your voice with Meta AI.” From there, they can decide whether to enable voice translation, and even opt in to auto lip syncing for a more realistic effect.

If preferred, creators can also preview translations before they go live. A notification, or an alert via Professional Dashboard, will let them review and approve the translated version. Importantly, rejecting a translation won’t affect the original, non-translated reel.
Viewers, meanwhile, will see translated content in their chosen language, with clear labeling that Meta AI was used. They’ll also have the option to control which languages they want translations for.

This functionality could open the door to much larger audiences, particularly for creators seeking to expand their reach into new markets. At launch, the limitations are clear—only Spanish is supported—but Meta promises more languages soon.
Naturally, as with all machine translation, errors are inevitable, and Meta has issued some best practices to maximize accuracy:
- The system can handle up to two speakers, but creators should avoid talking over one another.
- - Reducing background noise or music helps the AI deliver cleaner results.
- - Growing an audience in another language will take time, much like starting from scratch in a new market.
So while not flawless, the feature has clear potential for creators who want to build international communities.
Alongside this update, Meta is also introducing another option for Page managers: the ability to add up to 20 custom dubbed audio tracks to a single Reel.

As Meta notes:
“Like Meta AI translations, viewers will hear your reel in their own language so you can continue to build deeper connections with diverse audiences without language barriers.”
These manually uploaded audio tracks won’t benefit from lip syncing, but they give creators more flexibility to present their content in multiple languages.
For now, the new translation tools will be available to Facebook creators who have activated Professional Mode and amassed at least 1,000 followers. Instagram creators with public accounts in regions where Meta AI is active will also be able to use the feature.
