Meta Joins Forces with Midjourney to Supercharge AI Visual Generation

As Meta continues to push forward with its ambitious artificial general intelligence (AGI) project, the company is also doubling down on expanding its broader suite of AI tools — and that means securing the best expertise and partnerships available.

 

In that vein, Meta has announced a new collaboration with Midjourney, which will see the tech giant integrate Midjourney’s expertise in image and video generation into its own AI offerings. The partnership is expected to significantly enhance Meta’s creative tools.

As Meta’s newly appointed Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang explained:

 

“We’re proud to announce a partnership with Midjourney, to license their aesthetic technology for our future models and products, bringing beauty to billions. This technical collaboration between our research teams is part of our effort to team up with the best companies in the industry whose work and expertise complements our own.”

 

Midjourney has quickly established itself as one of the industry leaders in AI-powered visual generation, with its systems now advancing into video production as well. For Meta, the tie-up promises to refine the visual output of its generative AI models, which could have far-reaching implications for advertisers and marketers leveraging Meta’s platforms.

 

And many advertisers are already doing just that. According to Meta, nearly 2 million businesses are now using its AI-driven video generation features, with strong uptake among small and medium-sized companies experimenting with image animation in particular.

 

This suggests that the Midjourney partnership could translate into a substantial upgrade for Meta’s advertising toolkit, while also improving the creative experience for everyday users of its generative AI products.

The company is also working with several Hollywood filmmakers on its “Movie Gen” AI tool, a project aimed at enabling users to produce short films directly from text prompts.

 

Still, Wang emphasized that Meta’s strategy is not about going it alone but about ensuring leadership in the rapidly evolving AI space by partnering with the strongest innovators.

 

This collaboration with Midjourney could be a critical step in that direction — laying the groundwork for more sophisticated and visually compelling generative AI experiences across Meta’s apps.
