Meta cuts jobs and gradually replaces staff with AI!

That prediction is already materializing. Meta has now begun informing employees in its risk division that parts of their workforce will be replaced by AI-driven systems.
According to Business Insider, Meta’s expanding suite of AI tools has reached a level of sophistication that enables the company to automate more of its internal processes, eliminating the need for certain human roles.
As BI reports:
“Meta’s chief compliance and privacy officer of product, Michel Protti, informed workers in the risk organization on Wednesday that it has been moving away from manual reviews to more automated processes. ‘As a result, we don’t need as many roles in some areas as we once did,’ he wrote, without disclosing the number of affected roles.”
This shift follows just a day after Meta announced it would be cutting around 600 jobs from its “Superintelligence Labs” — the internal unit focused on developing the next generation of AI.
While Meta didn’t explicitly say those positions were being replaced by AI systems, the company did claim the downsizing would “streamline decision-making” within the division. Still, it’s hard not to assume that at least some of those functions are being absorbed by the very generative AI tools Meta is building. The company is, after all, intent on transforming itself into an AI-first organization — and it’s eager to prove that its technology can optimize operations at scale.
If Meta can successfully replace large portions of its workforce with AI, that would serve as a powerful demonstration of the strength of its tools — and an enticing example for other corporations considering similar moves.
Meanwhile, Meta is doubling down on its AI ambitions with massive infrastructure investments. This week, the company also announced a new joint venture with Blue Owl Capital, aimed at unlocking fresh funding channels for its ongoing data center expansion — a key foundation for its AI future.
Taken together, these moves suggest that Meta’s staff reductions aren’t merely about trimming expenses. Rather, they appear to be part of a broader effort to boost efficiency, remove bureaucratic friction, and embed AI across every level of the company’s operations.
Still, there’s a lingering concern: fewer human reviewers and compliance staff could mean less oversight — particularly as Meta accelerates its push into powerful, largely untested AI systems.
That tension reflects a much larger issue across the tech industry. As companies race to lead the AI revolution, safety and ethical considerations often fall by the wayside. If this pace continues unchecked, regulation may only arrive after the damage is done — once AI tools have already been woven into the fabric of society.
