Instagram Makes DMs Fun Again With New Drawing Option
Adshine.pro10/24/20255 viewsIt’s been floating around in limited testing for a while now, so if you’ve already had access to it—good for you. No need to rush to the comments to let everyone know.
But today, Instagram has officially rolled out its new feature that lets users draw directly on their DM screens, along with the ability to place stickers anywhere across the messaging interface.
As shown in the sample images, you can now find the new “Draw” option by tapping the “+” menu icon to the right of the message composer. Once selected, a new toolbar appears at the top of the screen, giving you a variety of drawing tools to create custom sketches, doodles, or highlights over your chat.
You can also drop stickers within the conversation frame, offering another layer of personalization to your DMs—and maybe even a bit of fun in your private chats.
Whether this becomes a hit feature remains to be seen. Realistically, your drawings and stickers will quickly vanish from view as the conversation continues—especially if you’re exchanging Reels or photos at a fast pace. Still, it’s a playful addition that might help emphasize a reaction, punctuate a point, or simply make chats a little more dynamic.
It’s part of a broader trend: DM usage on Instagram continues to climb, now surpassing both main feed posts and Stories in overall engagement. People are sharing privately far more than publicly, which is exactly why “sends” have become a more significant signal in Instagram’s algorithm—outweighing likes as a measure of genuine interest.
In that context, adding interactive features like drawing tools and stickers makes sense. These experiments aim to make messaging feel livelier and keep users engaged longer in private spaces within the app.
Personally, I’d bet it ends up as a niche option—something most people try once and forget. But then again, features like Notes have proven surprisingly popular, particularly among younger users, showing that even small interaction tweaks can catch on fast.
So who knows? Maybe drawing hearts, arrows, and random doodles across your DMs will become the next subtle way to communicate on Instagram.
Instagram says the new options are rolling out to all users starting today.
