Meta Launches AI Dating Assistant on Facebook

Meta has announced a fresh round of updates for Facebook Dating, its in-app matchmaking feature first launched in 2019.
Yes, Facebook Dating is still very much alive—and with usage reportedly on the rise, particularly among younger audiences, Meta is now aiming to refine the experience by making it easier to find compatible matches through interest-driven tools.
The biggest addition is a new dating assistant, designed to guide users toward more relevant matches within the app.

As Meta explains:
“Dating assistant is a chat assistant within Facebook Dating that gives you personalized help on your dating journey. It can help you find better matches based on your interests and preferences, giving you refined search and custom match recommendations.”
At first glance, the idea of an assistant helping users might raise eyebrows, particularly if it were to start composing messages or presenting an alternative version of someone’s personality. Meta insists that is not the purpose here. Instead, the assistant is focused on refining search and discovery—allowing users to go beyond the standard filters of height, education, or location.
“The assistant allows users to go beyond traditional traits like height or education, allowing you to enter unique prompts tailored to what you’re looking for. For example, you can write ‘Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech’ and the dating assistant will help you with your search.”
Still, the tool can also provide dating tips, suggest profile improvements, and even inject ideas for conversation—features that could edge close to presenting a polished, AI-enhanced version of a user. Whether that enhances authenticity or erodes it will depend on how people choose to engage with the technology.
Alongside this, Meta is introducing a new feature called “Meet Cute”, which automatically connects users with a surprise match generated by Meta’s personalized matching algorithm.
In practice, that means if you’re unsure how to optimize your profile, Meta can effectively take the reins—using its data insights to recommend and connect you with someone it believes you’ll like.

The rollout of these updates is notable given Facebook Dating’s relatively low visibility within Meta’s broader app ecosystem. Yet, research suggests engagement is increasing.
According to Axios, daily conversations on Facebook Dating among users aged 18 to 29 jumped 24% last year. Meta itself says:
“Hundreds of thousands of young adults (ages 18-29) in the U.S. and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles every month, and young adult matches are up 10% year over year.”
That momentum, coupled with Meta’s unmatched data resources across its platforms, makes the service more viable than its understated profile might suggest.
For now, the new tools provide users with additional pathways to find potential partners on Facebook—even if some may wonder whether AI-generated nudges are a genuine enhancement or just another step toward turning romance into an algorithm-driven simulation.
