Facebook Reintroduces Job Listings to Take On LinkedIn

Facebook is taking another swing at job listings, reintroducing an updated version of in-app job opportunities designed to help young adults discover local entry-level roles.

As shown in this example, Facebook is reviving its on-platform job listings, now accessible through the “Marketplace” tab, with the aim of connecting more people to available positions.
According to Facebook:
“Finding a job should be easy and accessible. Whether you’re seeking your first real job or just a part-time gig, Facebook’s new job feature helps you search and apply for the work you want. You can explore job openings through a dedicated section within Marketplace. Listings will also appear across Groups and Pages, and users can refine their search within the Marketplace Jobs subtab by category, distance, and job type.”
This means users will have multiple ways to browse job listings, offering businesses another channel to promote open roles on the world’s most widely used social platform.

Both individuals and companies will be able to post job opportunities — from a homeowner looking for a local landscaper to a business seeking new hires through its Facebook Page.
“If you’re an employer, you can post a job listing on Facebook via Marketplace, your Page, or through Meta Business Suite.”
Given Facebook’s massive reach, the move makes sense. However, the real question is whether job listings will perform better this time around—or if Meta will eventually abandon the idea once more.
Facebook originally launched its in-app job listings back in 2016, later expanding the feature globally. The company even introduced on-profile resumes and other career-oriented tools, signaling what looked like a challenge to LinkedIn’s dominance.
But by 2022, Facebook had quietly stepped away from the initiative, scaling job features down until they were neither easily searchable nor widely promoted.
For starters, Facebook’s job section failed to generate strong user engagement—people never really viewed Facebook as a professional hiring platform. More critically, investigations revealed that Facebook’s algorithms were displaying certain job ads differently to men and women, even when the roles required the same qualifications, among other discriminatory patterns.
Between the low user interest and regulatory scrutiny, Facebook chose to bow out of the recruitment space. Yet now, the company seems ready to re-enter those waters—this time betting on its AI-driven systems to better connect users with the right opportunities.
And perhaps they will. After all, Facebook has an enormous pool of behavioral and interest-based data that could, in theory, match users to relevant roles with impressive accuracy.
Back in 2016, before launching its first job feature, Facebook’s research team even released two studies suggesting that Facebook data could help users find ideal career paths.
So Meta already possesses the data to match candidates with openings, and its continually advancing AI tools could make that process more refined and personalized than ever before.
That might be incentive enough for Facebook to bring job listings back as a way to create more direct hiring connections for small and local businesses.

This move also aligns with Meta’s broader ambition to act as a modern-day community hub—essentially replacing local newspapers with Facebook Groups. The decline of traditional media, accelerated in part by Facebook itself, has left a gap that local online communities have filled. Marketplace is already a thriving example of this shift, and the return of job listings could reinforce that role even further.
So while the idea has potential, it remains unlikely that Facebook Jobs will capture a substantial portion of the overall recruitment market.
For now, the refreshed job feature is only rolling out in the U.S., with specific restrictions on what kinds of roles can be posted—prohibiting listings tied to adult services, drugs, multi-level marketing schemes, and similar categories.
